Why Representation Matters
It ensures student voices are included in decision making at the university and notional level. Through internal and external committees, student leaders advocate for students and help shape their experience.
University Representation

The Board of Governors serves to set out the objectives and powers of the university by guiding the university on topics such as academic quality, the student experience, governance, oversight of the President, etc. The Board consists of members of the University community, including alumni, faculty, students, and committed volunteers from the community at large. The Board oversees the conduct of the University’s affairs, ensuring, through the University President, that a qualified and diligent team carries out the day-to-day activities with respect to the University’s financial and other resources, and together with the Senate, fulfills the mission of the University.

The Fredericton and Saint John Senates are the academic governing bodies of the University and have responsibility for academic matters on their respective campuses as set out in the University of New Brunswick Act. The Fredericton Senate has 73 members, which include members of faculty and librarians, contract academic employees, students, alumni and members of administration. The Senate's function through a series of standing committees that include both separate committees specific to each Senate and common or joint committees where matters of common interest to both Senates are considered. The SU oversees appointments of student representatives to the Fredericton Senate

The UNB Associated Alumni Council works to strengthen the relationship between UNB, its more than 100,000 alumni, and current students. The council is committed to telling our story, celebrating alumni success, enabling professional development and lifelong learning, and helping alumni give back to pave the way for the next generation. As one of the student representatives, we bring the student perspective to the council's discussions, helping ensure current students remain connected to the broader UNB community. Working alongside alumni and university leaders, we help build meaningful relationships between students and alumni that continue long after graduation.\

The Canadian Organization of Campus Activities facilitates the connection and education of student leaders from campuses across Canada in the areas of event programming, student groups, and marketing & design. COCA’s main event is their annual conference held during the summer. It serves as a networking tool for students to meet their colleagues across the country as well as offering opportunities for entertainment.

Maritime Student Congress is a leadership development conference for student union and association executives. As the only regional conference of its kind in the country, it is intended to supplement student executive transition by providing networking opportunities, training, and information sessions. Delegates will meet fellow student executives from across the Maritimes, discuss student issues and shared challenges, and participate in training designed to enhance their performance as student leaders.
