ABOUT UNBSU X Greener village

Greener Village, formerly known as The Fredericton Food Bank, has been a pillar of support for the Greater Fredericton Area since its establishment in 1983. Greener Village plays a crucial role in addressing food insecurity in New Brunswick. Each month, approximately 1,000 families, including children, youth, and seniors, rely on their assistance. The organisation goes beyond traditional food bank services by offering multiple distribution locations, community kitchens, training workshops, and partnerships with over 35 community organisations in Fredericton. As the need for food assistance has increased in recent times, it has become imperative for UNBSU to organise a fundraising event during Orientation Week to benefit this vital organisation.

By organising a fundraiser for Greener Village during Orientation Week, UNBSU aims to address the pressing issue of food insecurity and support the vulnerable members of our community. The event will provide an opportunity for UNB students, Orientation leaders, and the wider community to come together and contribute towards alleviating hunger and ensuring access to nutritious food.

We hope this fundraising event will teach the first-year students the value of giving back to their community, and supporting Greener Village through this fundraising event will instil the importance of compassion, social responsibility, and the power of collective action among incoming UNB students. Together, we can make a tangible difference in the lives of individuals and families facing food insecurity, fostering a more equitable and caring society in New Brunswick.

Join us in this meaningful endeavour as, for the first time ever, we raise funds for Greener Village during Orientation Week. Let us unite, extend a helping hand, and create lasting impact in our community by addressing the pressing issue of food insecurity.
