Dear UNB students,

In the coming days on our beautiful campus, you will notice that our community - both in spirit and surroundings - will be shining a little brighter. Not only will we look up to see a pride flag blowing in the wind above Sir Howard Douglas Hall, but those entering the Student Union Building will look down to admire our brand new rainbow crosswalk. To our left and right, we will be surrounded by community members and allies of the LGBTQIA2S+ community.

The addition of a rainbow crosswalk by the Student Union represents a celebration of Pride Week, and an ongoing commitment to the LGBTQIA2S+ community - locally and globally.

This Sunday, we are honoured to be joining the 203 Centre for Gender and Sexual Diversity, Qmunity, Engiqueers, and the UNB Reds in the Fredericton Pride Parade as we stand together to strive for a more equitable and united future. Opening the 203 Centre just last year serves as a pinnacle step forward in our commitment to creating a visible, tangible space for the LGBTQIA2S+ community at UNB: close both in space and to the mission of the UNB Student Union.

The passion demonstrated by both past and present members of the joint LGBTQIA2S+ - UNB community is nothing short of inspiring. We stand in solidarity with members of the UNB community who were the subject of discrimination and hardship as a result of their gender or sexual identities, and are inspired by a collective drive in our ongoing journey to improvement.

This Sunday, our walk in the Fredericton Pride Parade builds upon decades of momentum gathered by those who have marched before us. Our rainbow crosswalk is a display of strength, unity, and pride. The spirit of Pride shines brightly in our hearts and on our campus.

When we walk, we walk together - towards a brighter, more united, and prouder future for us all.

-Your Student Union
