Internal Advocacy
Lobbying within the University itself can often be overlooked as a form of advocacy, but the UNBSU believes it is absolutely imperative in changing post-secondary education for the better. Our VP Internal and Student Senators lead the charge for students within UNB’s senate, advocating for positive changes to academic policy and substantial reforms to academic program regulations. In addition to all of this, the UNBSU works for the betterment of International Student life, through our partnership with UNB’s international student advocacy office and with our very own UNBSU international student advocacy coordinator.

Municipal Advocacy
On the municipal level, the UNBSU works with a number of different groups in Fredericton to make sure students are well-represented and present in major decisions affecting our city. Most prominently, our VP External is a member of the Mayor’s working group, which examines student issues from housing to transit service and more. If you’d like to know more about the NBSA, or any of our lobbying initiatives, please contact our VP External, at external@unbsu.ca.

Provincial Advocacy
On the provincial level, the UNBSU is a member of the New Brunswick Student Alliance. The NBSA works to advocate on a provincial level for a number of important issues related to post-secondary education. As a part of this group the UNBSU advocates alongside 3 other university campuses in the province representing over 12,000 students. If you’d like to know more about the NBSA, please visit their website.

If you have any questions about any of our lobbying initiatives, please contact our VP External at external@unbsu.ca.

Federal Advocacy
On the federal level, the UNBSU is a member of the Canadian Alliance of Student Associations. CASA’s core advocacy tenants state that post-secondary education should be accessible, affordable, innovative and high quality, and as a part of this group the UNBSU advocates alongside 22 student associations representing over 200,000 students from coast to coast. If you’d like to know more about CASA, or any of our initiatives, please contact our VP External, at external@unbsu.ca.
