Bus Pass Information

Universal Bus Pass FAQs

Q: What is a Universal Bus Pass?

A: A Universal Bus Pass would be an agreement between the UNB Student Union and Fredericton City Transit, offering full-time undergraduate students of UNB Fredericton unlimited usage of city transit for a fee of no more than $115.00 a year.

Q: The Universal Bus Pass has already been to referendum before, why is it coming to referendum again?

A: Through talks between the UNBSU Executive and City Transit, an agreement has been reached to increase service on key bus routes that are heavily used by students, if the UNBSU is to accept a Universal Bus Pass. This increase in service was not part of past referendums and the UNBSU feels it may change how students feel about a Universal Bus Pass. Infrequent service was one of the main factors students cited for not wanting a Universal Bus Pass in the 2011 UNBSU Bus Pass Survey.

Q: If Transit is to increase service, but what are the proposed service increases?

A: The increase in service will come as increased frequency of runs on the current bus routes. The proposed changes are marked in red in the schedules below. These changes will be negotiable if students feel that service would be better increased along other routes.
See Appendix A for bus routes and proposed changes.

Q: Who else in Fredericton has Universal Bus Passes?

A: St. Thomas University Student Union (STUSU) has a Universal Bus Pass for STU students. Before the STUSU Bus Pass was implemented, the St. Thomas University had to provide shuttle service to their Forrest Hill Residence. With the implementation of the Bus Pass, the University opted to pay part of the Universal Bus Pass fee for students. The University of New Brunswick was approached with the offer to contribute part of the fee, but declined.

The UNB graduate students have a Universal Bus Pass with a geographical opt out for those living outside of city limits. The fee for the GSA is $140 because of the opt out.
