Women in Science and Engineering
Women in Science and Engineering was founded at UNB in 2009, and, since it is currently in its first year, it would be great if we could get tons of support from the lovely ladies in the science and engineering faculties!
The WISE UNB Chapter offers events with a variety of interesting speakers, tutorials, outings and etc. These events provide an excellent opportunity for getting to know one another and to make our network larger.
We have a mentorship program in which we pair a science or engineering student with a professional in the working field related to the student’s interests at the student’s request. This program has complete flexibility as the student can take part via email or even meet their mentor face to face. Overall, the program is beneficial, informative and gives you the opportunity to see what life is like after your degree.
We also take part in CIBC’s Run for the Cure and fund-raise as team WISE. If you would like more information about the Run for the Cure email us with VP Internal in the title or email s170s@unb.ca. Be on the lookout for some great events!
Most importantly, WISE is a place where female students in science and engineering can see what opportunities are available for them. They get to hear first hand experiences from speakers about what it is like in this industry, promote female participation in the science and engineering fields and have the ability to get out there and travel to conferences where they get to network and experience another aspect of life after university. If you would like more information about upcoming conferences email p2rw9@unb.ca.
Elections take place each spring and it's a great way to get involved in WISE and to promote women in science and engineering! The time commitment is very flexible with meetings once to twice a month and the rewards are, of course, limitless!
If you think you would be interested in joining WISE just contact us at wise@unb.ca for more information or visit our website or check out Facebook.
